Leather Recoloration

— Genuine Leather, Restored

Leather is the signature of a private cabin — and the hardest-working surface in it. It is touched, leaned on, and flown more than any other element of the interior, so it is also the first to show its age: scuffs, wear-through, fading, and the quiet dulling that comes with thousands of flight hours. The instinct is to replace it. Often, there is a better answer.

AeroVisto restores worn leather to a like-new appearance through professional recoloration. The leather stays in the life of the aircraft — refreshed rather than discarded — protecting the value of a premium natural material on a fraction of the timeline a full reupholstery demands.

Made for genuine leather.

This service is dedicated to real, natural leather only — the material at the heart of a premium cabin. Recoloration restores and renews authentic leather, preserving the look and feel that define it.

Why Recoloration Is Real Leather Craft

There is a common assumption that recoloring leather is a compromise — a cosmetic patch over a worn surface. The opposite is true. Color is not something added to finished leather; it is part of how leather becomes finished leather.

In the tannery, hide passes through a multi-stage process, and the step that gives leather its color is, at its core, the same principle we apply: a controlled, even application of color to the surface. Most people never see this stage, because it happens at the tannery, long before the leather reaches a workshop. Recoloration brings that same finishing principle to leather that has already served — restoring, not disguising.

When done well, the leather still looks and feels like leather. The craft is in restraint: building color in thin, even layers so the grain and suppleness are preserved, never flooding the surface. That discipline is the entire difference between true restoration and a painted finish.

Did you know?
Leather is colored when it is made.

When leather is produced, it does not arrive with its color already there — it is given its color during finishing at the tannery, through a controlled, even application to the surface. Coloring leather is not a later fix; it is part of how leather becomes the material we know and love.

So when we recolor your cabin, we are not covering leather up — we are continuing the very process that gave it its color in the first place. That is why a professional recoloration looks and feels like genuine leather, with the grain and character intact.

Two Ways to Restore Your Leather

Color Refresh

Restoring a worn surface to its original color — your cabin’s existing palette, brought back to a like-new finish.

Color Change

Changing the leather’s color entirely. Beige to brown, blue to brown, lighter or darker — a wide range is possible. Only the most extreme opposites, such as pure white to black or black to white, fall outside what recoloration can achieve; everything in between can be realized.

There are two reasons our clients choose a color change:

  • Design intent — while the work is being done anyway, evolving the palette to a tone you prefer.
  • Operator or ownership transition — when seats move to a new operator or owner, recoloration adapts the cabin to its new identity instead of buying new seats, even when the leather itself is still in excellent condition.

When Recoloration Is the Right Call

Recoloration is the right answer when the leather’s underlying structure is still sound — worn and tired on the surface, but not heavily cracked, torn through, or embrittled. Before that point, regular care and cleaning extends leather’s life and keeps it supple. Once care has run its course, recoloration is the next step that extends life further — instead of removing, discarding, and rebuilding. Very smooth, heavily used leather is assessed case by case to confirm suitability. Where the structure is sound, restoration is almost always the more intelligent path than replacement.
Recoloration vs. Reupholstery

Key Benefits

  • Value Retention — Extend the life of a premium natural material instead of discarding it, protecting both your cabin’s appearance and its value.
  • Sustainability by Design — Leather is a natural product. Recoloration keeps it in service rather than sending it to waste; extending the life of what already exists is the more responsible choice.
  • Rapid Turnaround — In business aviation, recoloration is measured in roughly two weeks, against approximately twelve weeks for a full reupholstery — minimizing downtime and keeping your aircraft flying.
  • Repeatable — The process can be carried out more than once over a cabin’s life. Restoration is not a one-time event.
  • Color Flexibility — A broad spectrum of tones and full color changes, within clearly defined technical limits.
  • No Minimum Quantity — From a single worn seat to a complete cabin, there is no minimum. Small, targeted work is as welcome as fleet-scale projects.
  • Genuine Leather, Preserved — The finish keeps the look and feel of real leather, with grain and suppleness intact.
  • Certified Delivery — Every project is delivered with full EASA documentation and flammability testing.

Scope & Logistics

Every part of a seat can be addressed — armrests, cushions, backs, and headrests — so a cabin’s worn points are treated comprehensively. There is no minimum quantity: a single seat or a full cabin are both viable.

Two execution paths fit different needs:

  • On-aircraft restoration — work carried out in place.
  • Workshop recoloration — removable covers are taken to the shop, refinished, and returned. Sending covers for refinishing is standard, straightforward logistics.

Around the work itself, AeroVisto coordinates collection and transport, certification including flammability testing, and certified delivery — the complete package, handled end to end.

A Design Opportunity

Recoloration is not only about putting things right — it is an opportunity to make the cabin your own. The same project that restores a worn interior can evolve its character: a warmer tone, a deeper shade, a palette that better reflects the aircraft’s identity or a new chapter of ownership.

The discipline behind the craft — thin, even color built with restraint — is what makes this possible without ever losing the look and feel of genuine leather. With AeroVisto, a refurbishment becomes a quiet act of design.

The AeroVisto Advantage: Proven Where It Matters Most

The technique at the core of this service is a refined repair-and-restoration craft, proven across the most demanding aircraft interiors — the premium cabins where appearance and durability are held to the highest standard in the industry. When a process earns trust at that level, it speaks to its quality and reliability. AeroVisto brings that expertise together with a dedicated, trained team, established paint-booth infrastructure, and classic saddlery skill — the combination that lets us handle everything from a single seat to complex, unusual color work. Recoloration sits within years of aircraft-interior craftsmanship, not adjacent to it.

One Partner for the Whole Cabin

Leather recoloration integrates with AeroVisto’s full range of interior services, so a single trusted partner can carry the entire cabin:

  • Premium Upholstery Solutions — for full reupholstery where it is the right call
  • Foam Replacement & Modification (16G/9G) — to restore comfort beneath the surface
  • Veneering & Varnishing — for cohesive cabin aesthetics
  • Premium Countertop Replacement and Carpet Replacement — for total cabin harmony

Compliance Without Compromise

As a certified EASA Part 145 Maintenance Organization, EASA Part 21G Production Organization, and UK.145 Maintenance Organisation, AeroVisto handles all regulatory requirements seamlessly across both European and UK jurisdictions. We deliver the required documentation with every service — including the Engineering Order, STC, Major Change and Minor Change Certification, EASA Form 1, and UK Certificate of Release to Service. We manage the complete certification process, including flammability sampling and testing, and coordinate between our production engineering and the approved EASA 21J Design Organization. Colors and materials always comply with aviation safety requirements, regardless of your aircraft’s registration.

In the Heart of Europe

AeroVisto offers this service from the heart of Europe — close to clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia who would rather keep their aircraft and components within easy reach than ship them across the Atlantic. A European address means shorter routes, simpler logistics, and a partner in a convenient time zone.

Few providers offer this craft to a true aviation standard. AeroVisto’s experience and expertise are the difference — a specialized capability, delivered from within Europe, with full certification.
