The Art of Italian Aviation
The Piaggio P-180 Avanti II is one of the most recognizable turboprops in aviation, known for its three-lifting-surface design and pusher propellers. When SKJ Aviation decided to upgrade their aircraft’s interior for charter services, owner Shai Tsabari had a clear vision: craft a sophisticated environment that would make their P-180 stand out in the competitive charter market while also being practical for various needs clientele.
AeroVisto partnered with Rheinland Air Service to deliver this complete refurbishment, combining Swiss precision with German technical excellence to honor the aircraft’s Italian heritage while setting new standards for modern business aviation.
Client-Centric Design Evolution
The design process exemplified AeroVisto’s consultative approach, evolving through multiple iterations to achieve the ideal balance of aesthetics and functionality. After reviewing several rendering versions with the SKJ Aviation team, the final design focused on a sophisticated monochromatic palette, featuring high-quality grey leather throughout the cabin and accented by distinctive white diamond-pattern stitching, which would become the interior’s signature element.
Material selection reflected the demanding needs of charter operations. The grey leather specified wasn’t just visually appealing—it was chosen specifically for its easy-to-clean qualities, ensuring quick turnovers between flights. Light-toned synthetic leather on ceiling surfaces would maximize cabin brightness, while deep blue carpeting would add visual depth and provide exceptional durability for high-traffic areas.
Adaptive Problem-Solving in Action
The project showcased AeroVisto’s ability to adapt when faced with unforeseen challenges. Tsabari’s initial vision included unique red seatbelts—a bold choice to distinguish the aircraft from competitors. When the supplier quoted a 26-week lead time that would significantly delay the project, AeroVisto promptly worked with the client to find alternatives.
Through collaborative discussion and quick sourcing efforts, the team found solutions that kept the design’s sophistication while meeting the project timeline. This flexible approach, turning a potential setback into a chance for creative problem-solving, exemplified the partnership mentality that defined the entire refurbishment. The client’s satisfaction with this collaborative process reinforced the trust necessary for such extensive transformations.
Technical Transformation
Working closely with Rheinland Air Service, the refurbishment included five single cabin seats and one side-facing double seat configuration, all reupholstered with grey leather featuring signature diamond stitching. Both cockpit positions received premium leather combined with anthracite sheepskin, while the panels were painted white on the inner sections and black on the outer portions for visual clarity.
All wooden elements received an advanced surface refinement by applying decor film in a matching two-tone design: lighter grey metallic for the forward bulkhead and table centers, darker grey for frames, side ledges, and cupboard surfaces. This added visual depth while maintaining a cohesive color story throughout the compact cabin.
Headliner, valence, and windowliner panels received new synthetic leather, while lower sidewalls throughout were wrapped in matching grey leather. Additionally, the thirteen window shade assemblies underwent complete refurbishment. The lavatory featured a new aviation-grade mirror installation using specialized materials for enhanced durability, complemented by coordinated leather applications.
Charter-Ready Excellence
For SKJ Aviation’s charter operations, this refurbishment provides vital operational benefits beyond just appearance. The easy-to-maintain leather surfaces allow quick cleaning between flights, which is crucial for keeping to schedule. The sophisticated but neutral color scheme appeals to a wide range of charter clients, from business executives to private groups.
The durable decorative film applications resist the wear patterns typical of high-utilization aircraft, maintaining their appearance despite frequent use. Every material choice—from the resilient carpet to the maintainable ceiling surfaces—reflects an understanding of charter operations’ unique demands.
Client feedback confirmed the project’s success, with the SKJ Aviation team expressing complete satisfaction with both the collaborative process and the impressive results. The excellent communication throughout the project, combined with AeroVisto’s problem-solving approach, fostered a partnership that went beyond typical vendor-client relationships.
Partnership Excellence Delivered
This successful transformation highlights the value of strategic collaboration in specialized aircraft refurbishment. While AeroVisto concentrated on interior excellence, Rheinland Air Service handled complementary refurbishment tasks, ensuring a comprehensive aircraft upgrade. This coordinated effort reduced downtime while upholding top-quality standards.
The finished interior now matches the innovation of the P-180’s revolutionary exterior design. Where Italian engineering meets Swiss precision craftsmanship, supported by German technical expertise, the result enhances every charter flight experience. For SKJ Aviation, this transformed P-180 is ready to impress the most discerning charter clients, blending operational efficiency with luxury.
